The film was officially announced in January 2021, along with the title of the film. Principal photography commenced in April 2022 and wrapped by April 2023. The film has music composed by JAM8, Vishal Mishra, Jaani, Manan Bhardwaj, Shreyas Puranik, Ashim Kemson and Harshwardhan Rameshwar, cinematography handled by Amit Roy and editing by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. With a runtime of 201 minutes (3 hours 21 minutes), the film was one of the longest Indian films made.
Animal was theatrically released on 1 December 2023 in standard and IMAX formats and received mixed reviews from critics.[8] It has grossed ₹408.64 crore (US$51 million) as of 3 December 2023.

Ranvijay "Vijay" Singh is the son of Balbir Singh, a Delhi-based business magnate who heads the generational steel company, "Swastik Steels". Vijay's family includes his father, mother Jyoti, and sisters Reet and Roop. Vijay has adored Balbir since childhood, but Balbir neglects him and is harsh with him due to his busy schedule. After an incident where a teenage Vijay brings an AK-47 to school and hurts a group of boys who bullied his sister, Balbir sends him away to a boarding school in United States.
Vijay returns to Delhi after completing his education, where he attends the engagement of his former school classmate, Geetanjali "Geeta", whom he has always loved. He convinces her to break her engagement and choose him. During Balbir's 60th birthday, Vijay fights with Reet's husband, Varun, and is kicked out of the house. He marries Geeta and moves to the United States, and they have two kids. Eight years later, after no contact with his family, he learns that his father was shot. He promptly returns to India and sets out to find the person responsible for the assassination attempt.
